Dutch dairy cooperative Royal FrieslandCampina has announced that it will shut down its cheese production facility in Taga, Romania.
The traditional Romanian Nasal cheese is among the range of products manufactured at this facility.
FrieslandCampina stated that the existing stocks will be sold and the cooperative will continue to source farm milk from the region for processing at other production locations in Romania.
A social plan is in place for the twelve employees working at the cheese manufacturing plant in Taga, the company said.
Earlier this month, FrieslandCampina completed the acquisition of cheese specialist Zijerveld and its packaging unit Den Hollander Food from MYWO Food.
The acquisition was part of the co-operative's strategy to strengthen its presence in added value cheese products.
FrieslandCampina Domo, a subsidiary of Netherlands-based Koninklijke FrieslandCampina, produces cheese, infant and toddler nutrition, butter, cream, desserts and functional dairy-based ingredients.
