Designer Liam Fahy has designed a pair of shoes that has quite literally lit up the London Fashion Week catwalk over the last few days, as they are embedded with crystal LED lights.
The Daily Mail reported that the designer's collection has been showcased at the beautiful Somerset House - the primary venue for the fashion event - until today (February 19th), after he scooped the British Fashion Council's prestigious NEWGEN gong.
Sending fashionistas absolutely wild, the design is reported to be a complete one-off.
According to the Daily Mail, the fashion mastermind explained how his company likes to undertake a unique project every now and then, explaining how for this particular project, part was carried out in the firm's factory in Venice while the electrical engineering of the footwear was carried out at De Montfort University in Leicester, where the designer had studied.
The team behind the work comprised a digital design engineer and a technical services manager, as well as a computing lecturer who created the microchips and circuitry which would be incorporated into the shoe.
While this might apparently have little to do directly with the use of LED lights in homes and outdoor spaces, it is an example of how innovative LED usage is increasing. One can now see these small lights cropping up in all sectors from industry and commerce, to entertainment and art, as well as to more conventional use in homes and as outdoor wall lights in landscape garden designs.
This is partly because they are extremely adaptable. Accordingly, this makes LEDs a perfect addition when looking for interesting ways to light your home in a way that suits both your taste and budget.
As well as being energy-efficient thereby keeping electricity bills down, the lights can be designed to turn on and off automatically whenever they are needed, meaning that properties do not need to be lit up like a Christmas tree at all hours of the night.
