Spirits producer Edrington has commenced construction on the new £100m distillery and visitor center in Moray, Scotland, for its brand The Macallan.
The company has obtained the planning permission to construct the distillery in August this year.
Edrington has awarded the construction contract to Robertson and distillation equipment supply deal to Forsyths of Rothes.
The facility is being designed by architects Rogers, Stirk, Harbour and Partners.
The distillery is expected to open in 2017. It is planned to be expanded in future to meet the growing demand of The Macallan.
Edrington CEO Ian Curle said: "Today represents an exciting new chapter for Edrington and a major step in The Macallan's long term commitment to be the leading premium spirit in the world.
"Over the next three years we will bring The Macallan brand experience to life in a truly unique style."
Robertson previously said in a statement: "In addition to creating a site of major architectural significance, the new distillery will ensure the on-going quality control of the production of The Macallan.
"With its rolling roofscape, the distillery has been designed to complement the natural beauty of the area and The Macallan Estate, which overlooks the River Spey."
