Officeworks Opens Its Doors to Recycling Scheme

Officeworks has partnered with DHL to be part of the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme.

The supply chain arm of DHL and Wesfarmers (the parent company of Officeworks) have established a network of computer equipment collection points.

The service, known as 'Bring IT Back', will enable householders and small businesses to drop off unwanted computers and computer equipment such as printers, laptops and monitors free of charge for recycling.

At present, there are 10 collection points available at Officeworks nationally for computers and computer products.

In 2008, Officeworks became involved in 'Byteback', a computer take-back program to help Victorians dispose of unwanted computer equipment responsibly. The Officeworks 'Byteback' locations in Victoria will now be converted to 'Bring IT Back' locations.

The National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme involves a combination of government regulation and industry action to reduce the amount of television and computer waste going to landfill and to increase the recovery of resources.

The scheme aims to boost the recycling rate of these products from 17 per cent in 2010 to 80 per cent by 2021-22.
