Dusseldorf District Court, Germany has ruled that Taiwan-based LED packaging company Everlight Electronics and its Germany-based subsidiary Everlight Electronics Europe GmbH have infringed a YAG (yttrium aluminum garnet) patent owned by Japan-based Nichia, European patent code EP 936 682 (Germany patent code DE 697 02 929), for six LED product items, according to Everlight's filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
Everlight filed a lawsuit with Federal Patent Court of Germany in March 2013 to claim that the Nichia patent is invalid already, with the court set to return a verdict in February 2014, the company said.
In response to Dusseldorf District Court's ruling, Everlight said it may appeal to a higher court.
