12.633 Million Bales of Cotton Had Reached Ginners in The Country by February 15, 2013

The fortnightly report on cotton arrival released by Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) shows that about 12.633 million bales of cotton had reached ginners in the country by February 15, 2013.

The figure is indicative of a 10.37 percent fall in cotton arrivals compared to 14.099 million bales arrived during same period last year, the report said.

PCGA Chairman Mahesh Kumar said in all 11.346 million bales of cotton have been traded so far this season without Trading Corporation of Pakistan’s (TCP) intervention, leaving ginners with an unsold stock of 1.286 million bales.

Local textile units procured around 11.070 million bales of cotton from the ginners, while around 276,018 bales were sold to the exporters.    Mr. Kumar said they were expecting cotton output for the season to remain below the Government set target of 12.5 million bales, however the actual output now seems to be reaching 13 million bales.

Housing around one-third of the 1,200 ginning factories operational in the country, Punjab and Sindh each contributed 9.257 million bales and 3.376 million bales to the total output for the period, while Balochistan contributed 53.025 bales.

While the contribution of Punjab indicated a year-on-year fall of 19.27 percent from last year’s levels of 11.467 million bales, Sindh region’s contribution grew by 28.52 percent over last year’s 2.627 million bales.
