Schott has opened a new ready-to-use (RTU) center for pharmaceutical packaging at its production facility in Lebanon in the US state of Pennsylvania.
The new center where the company and its pharmaceutical partners will work together for innovations in ready-to-use sterile pharma packaging will serve as a hub for the company.
Schott commenced production of adaptiQ ready-to-use vials at the facility.
The production facility's capacity will ensure the security of supply of RTU vials and other pharma packaging products at the center.
Schott Pharmaceutical Systems US sales and marketing vice-president Christopher Cassidy said: "Packaging is a critical cog in pharmaceutical delivery, and recent regulatory papers highlight the importance of high-quality processing and manufacturing of packaging.
"SCHOTT's center of excellence in Lebanon is the manifestation of the relationship we have with our partners, and our collaborative efforts create safe, reliable, and easy-to-use packaging products."
The launch of the center was announced at an event in which experts from pharmaceutical industry highlighted how specialty drugs are supporting medical growth in developing countries, and the self-administered drug market is expected to grow by 100% within next five years.
Currently, pharmaceutical manufacturers are focusing on RTU packaging as it can allow for particle-free drug filling, filling different container formats on the same filling line, and also turn processing of smaller batch sizes cost-effective.
Schott manufactures around 10 billion packaging products annually.
