Alfa Romeo plans to launch nine new or updated models and eclipse 300,000 sales annually by 2016 according to a leaked product roadmap from the Italian manufacturer.
The plans indicate that Alfa Romeo, part of the Fiat Group since 1986, will launch an updated version of its entry-level B-segment model, the MiTo, this year, with a C-segment Giulietta replacement to follow further down the track.
The three D-segment vehicles are thought to be a Giulia sedan and wagon and a crossover SUV model, while the E-segment car is aimed at the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6, and BMW 5-Series, possibly sharing much with the upcoming Maserati Ghibli sedan.
Topping the pricing structure will be two specialty models, likely to be a coupe and spider version of the new Alfa Romeo 4C sports car (concept pictured top), due to debut in hardtop form at the Geneva motor show in March. The model to sit below the 4C, a small roadster based on the next-generation Mazda MX-5 and co-developed with the Japanese manufacturer, is to be built in Hiroshima starting in 2015 before joining the Alfa Romeo line-up.
While the roadmap highlights a focus on markets in the US, Canada and Europe, Asian markets are seen as “offering great opportunity for growth”.
Alfa Romeo currently offers only two models in Australia, the Mito (pictured above) and Giulietta, with sales in 2012 totalling 160 units and 610 units respectively.
