Filling and packaging systems company KHS Group has commenced construction on a new production facility at its site in Hamburg, Germany, to meet growing demand for PET.
KHS intends to support the production of blocked systems, PET bottle blow molding, filling, capping, labeling and coating, through the facility.
The company is investing €3.5m in the expansion that will provide an additional 2,500m2 space for KHS Corpoplast and KHS Plasmax.
The new facility, with space for production and offices, will carry out commissioning and acceptance testing for stretch blow molders, blow molder/filler blocks and PET coating machines built by KHS Plasmax.
KHS Plasmax managing director Joachim Konrad said: "We're recording a significant increase in sales of our FreshSafe PET bottle coating process."
The shell of the building will be erected this year, with interior construction scheduled for 2016.
The workstations at the new building will be designed to include all the necessary equipment, such as tools, lifting and assembly devices and material provision systems to optimize procurement, logistics and assembly processes, the firm said.
The new cyclic production process to be employed at the facility enables the supply of materials, required for a two-day work cycle, to the relevant workstation. The work is then passed on to the next stage in the process.
KHS Corpoplast managing director Thomas Karell said: "We're driving growth at our headquarters for stretch blow molders in Hamburg with the new building.
"With this increase in capacity we're also cementing our chances of realizing our vision of technological and service leadership in the PET segment for the future."
