BA Glass Group is all set to upgrade and expand two container glass production facilities in western Poland upon receiving a €16.5m loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB).
Said to be the first part of the total approved €50m for the project, the investment will help in strengthening the economic attractiveness and competitiveness of the Wielkopolska and Opolskie regions.
The company, which operates in Portugal, Spain and Poland, plans to use the fund to increase the production capacity of the energy efficient plants that are located in Sieraków and Jedlice.
BA Glass will develop new technology to produce better quality and lighter glass containers, which will save raw materials as well as energy in transportation.
As part of the investment program, latest technology will be implemented at the facilities for glass furnace heating by using natural gas with electrical boosting.
In addition, through increased treatment and recycling, the expansion will help the plants to reduce water consumption.
The company plans to complete the modernization process by 2016.
EIB noted that the upgrade backed by the loan will increase the competiveness and long-term sustainability of the plant, while creating indirect employment, and maintaining about 640 direct jobs.
Including the latest fund, the company has received loans totalling about €92m from EIB to upgrade its industrial capacity.
