The Pathway School, an educational facility for students with complex learning disabilities, recently received a gift of electrical equipment donated by Orbit Industries, a manufacturer of electrical installation products.
The donation was coordinated by Wm. B. Bleiman & Sons, Inc, of Conshohocken, PA, a sales agency that represents Orbit products in the mid-Atlantic region. Owner Jeff Bleiman was a member of the Pathway School Board for more than 25 years.
Located in Norristown, PA, near Philadelphia, The Pathway School is a private, state-approved facility that serves students from 8 to 21 years old who have neurological impairments, including Autism Spectrum Disorders. Located on an 11-acre campus, the school was founded in 1961 and has provided educational and therapeutic services, along with career skills, to more than 1,000 students over the last 50 years.
The campus is currently undergoing major renovations and the Orbit electrical equipment will be used to upgrade a building that will house the Occupational Therapy, Speech, Transition Services, Career Education and Job Coaching departments.
“This generous donation from Orbit Industries will help us make our classrooms and offices safer and more environmentally-sound,” said Louise Robertson, vice president for development at Pathway. “Along with an academic program, Pathway also provides career education and partners with businesses in the Norristown area to help students find employment after graduation,” she said.
Students who have graduated from Pathway with a diploma or certificate of completion find jobs in hospitality, retail, data processing, animal health, and other fields. Student tuition is provided by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and local school districts. Private donations are used to create enrichment programs and to maintain the facilities.
“Pathway is one of the very few educational institutions in the U.S. offering such a wide range of services for young people with neurological and psychological disorders,” said Robertson. “It was one of the first schools in the nation to unify the disciplines of psychology, psychiatry, medicine, social work and education.”
