This Fan-Made Goldeneye Multiplayer Remake Is Seriously Impressive

Goldeneye occupies a special place in hearts of many former N64 owners, which is why we've seen so many attempts to rekindle the magic of that classic James Bond tie-in ever since.

While most 'remakes' have been mere tech demos, like this impressive attempt to render the Facility level in Unreal Engine 4, many will be unaware of this fully functioning HD version of the multiplayer mode from Goldeneye N64.

The result of 10 years of effort, GoldenEye: Source is a mod which received its first update in three years this week, and is now free to download and play.

While the game has been available for the last 10 years, the new update brings a masive overhaul to GoldenEye: Source.

The game now features 25 recreated maps, 10 different multiplayer modes, and also comes with redesigned weapons from the original array of 28.

Created using Valve's source engine, the remake only features the multiplayer mode from the original game, owing to a lack of developers, time, and money on the part of the creators.

As a FAQ on the developer's website states: "No, we have no plans to make single-player as we do not have the resources or sufficient number of developers to create it".

Interestingly, the trailer does seem to include some moments from the original single-player campaign, including the final fight with Alec Trevelyan in the Cradle mission.

If you're itching to get back into the GoldenEye action, you'll be pleased to know the recommended specs aren't too demanding.

The devs say you should be running on at least Windows 7 with about 4GB of RAM, so that nostalgia trip shouldn't be too difficult to embark on.
