With the rapid growth of the domestic electric vehicle industry, as the key material of electric vehicle batteries, lithium has become hot. The price per ton from 2015 at the beginning of a few million Yuan has been up to hundreds of thousands Yuan at present.
According to MIIT data, China's new energy automobile production and sales increased by 3.3 times and 3.4 times in 2015 which pure electric car production and sales increased by 4.2 times and 4.5 times and plug-in hybrid car production and sales increased by 1.9 times and 1.8 times.
“China's power battery capacity growth has been leading in the world.” deputy director and researcher of Development Research Center of the State Council, Zhang Yongwei said that China's lithium resources accounts for about 22% of the global lithium resources, but power battery consumption accounted for 25% of the global consumer market.
From resources development, to the production equipment manufacturing and lithium battery applications, China has formed a perfect lithium battery industry chain.
In fact, according to the national plan, by 2020, China's electric car ownership will reach 5 million. In the whole industry chain, the battery is the most critical link, accounted for 40% to 60% of the whole cost.
There are two technology routes of China's electric vehicle, lithium battery and fuel cell. Electric vehicles’ power use lithium battery, even some vehicles use fuel cells, but also requires a lithium battery support, because the fuel cell is not a very high power density. Lithium battery, lithium resource needs can be imagined.
The electric vehicles are different from the vast majority of technology, the latter mainly rely on market development. But the electric vehicles need national government’s support.
