China has extended anti-dumping duties on the imports of potato starch from the European Union (EU) for five more years.
According to the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) of China, the decision has been taken in a move to protect the interests of the domestic potato starch industry.
The ministry stated that there is a possibility of further dumping of potato starch into the country by EU producers if the duties were allowed to expire and the range and rates of the duties will be based on the previous decisions in 2007 and 2011.
In 2007, China imposed first anti-dumping duties on potato starch from the EU ranging from 18% to 35% for five years. However, in 2011 the rates were revised to 12.6%-56.7%.
Potato starch, also known as native potato starch, potato refined starch or potato flour, is primarily used in manufacturing emulsifiers, food products such as instant noodles, pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, textiles and paper.
