Manage The Loss of Body Heat Often Experienced From Sitting on a Cold Surface

Sterling Outdoor Products LLC is pleased to introduce its high tech entry into the world of performance ski wear. R-TEC BARRIER is an innovative approach to managing the loss of body heat often experienced from sitting on a cold surface such as a ski chairlift.

A few years ago, after becoming a member of the ski patrol, the product's inventor, an eye doctor by day, developed a keen interest in the "Chilled to the Bone" feeling associated with sitting on cold surfaces.  Being the "Rookie" member of the ski patrol, he frequently drew the last shift of the day and subsequently spent many evenings sitting on a cold chairlift seat as wind-chill index dipped to below zero.

The orthodox approach of adding layers of clothing or underwear did not appeal to him since he found the layering effect to be too cumbersome and restrictive for skiing.

Persistent in his intent, the doctor held that he could find a way to create a thermal barrier to heat loss without adding bulk in his thighs and legs.  After sewing a pocket into the seat of a regular pair of "long johns" he experimented with an assortment of materials that would work as an insert for the pocket.  He searched for the correct combination of insulation without adding bulk.  Pieces of carpeting did not escape the early trials.

He eventually chose neoprene because of its insulating and flexibility properties. He also decided to use a unique high-tech fabric to stitch onto the outer surface of the underwear's seat pocket.  This provided an added benefit of being waterproof and breathable for those cold and damp surfaces.

Each pair of R-TEC BARRIER is shipped with two distinctive forms of insert. One solid and 6 mm thick, is intended for use in extreme temperatures or prolonged sitting (e.g. on a cold metal bleacher, boat seat, or tree stand). The other, perforated and 5 mm thick is designed for use during more strenuous, intermittent activity such as skiing or snowboarding. The neoprene inserts are removable, washable and "crushable" for easy storage in a backpack or pocket.

The final result is a silky blend of next-to-skin layer of 90% breathable polyester, (one of today's most popular thermal insulators) and spandex. R-TEC BARRIER provides the long sought after barrier against cold surfaces and a comfortable contoured fit that makes the product invisible, even when worn under a snug pair of jeans.
