Company Monsanto Arranged an Official Showcase of Its New Technology at UAF Farm Land

In order to update agriculture stakeholders regarding future technology, world’s leading seed company Monsanto arranged an official showcase of its new technology at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad’s (UAF) farm land.
 
Sketching the growth of Monsanto from inception till today, Monsanto Pakistan’s Regulatory Affairs leader Muhammad Asim said the company first initiated the trials of Genetically Modified Corn and it was following the 120-day long second generation trail that they applied for commercialization of the crop.
 
UAF Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Iqrar A Khan said Monsanto introduced Bt cotton in Pakistan, and the Bt cotton that the farmers in the country cultivate presently was actually conceived by Monsanto.
 
Praising the event, he said it is a great start to University-Industry Linkage, as Monsanto engages in cotton business and UAF is also working to further opportunities which could benefit the industry, cultivators and the academic community at large.
 
He said the event is an opportunity for students, industry stakeholders and the academia to learn about the most recent developments of Monsanto.
 
Prof. Khan said the legal system of the country has set some preconditions assessing risk and carrying out field test and gather some vital information, which have to be complied while conducting trials.
