MediaTek Inc., a leading fabless semiconductor company for wireless communications and digital multimedia solutions, today announced that Acer Inc. has selected MediaTek quad-core solutions to power its first "phablet", the Liquid S1, and latest smartphone, the Liquid E2. The new devices, which enable mobile productivity, and premium multimedia experiences, are going to hit the market soon.
The Liquid S1, with its 1.5GHz quad core solution, is a multimedia powerhouse. The 5.7-inch device features a HD 720p display that combines the power of a tablet with the convenience of a smartphone to allow for rich viewing experiences and seamless content sharing on the go. With its sleek design and all powerful quad-core solution, the S1 is sure to make waves in the fast-growing phablet segment, which encompasses mobile devices ranging 5 to 6.9 inches in size.
Users looking for an equally compelling performance in a smaller package need to look no further than Liquid E2. The 4.5-inch smartphone offers a real-time camera function capable of shooting eight photos per second, up to 99 photos in total. Viewed on the device's qHD display, the resulting images are crystal clear. For audio consumption, the E2 also includes a dual speaker with DTS Sound quality. As for web content, the device's HSPA+ modem boasts speeds of up to 42 Mbps for a rapid connectivity experience.
