Platinum prices have surged, rising above gold for the first time in 10 months after the largest producer of the metal said it would halt operations at several mines in South Africa.
The move, part of an effort to return to profit amid rapidly rising costs, would reduce Anglo American Platinum s annual production by about 15 per cent.
