The low density polyethylene unit at Dow Chemical's Bahia Blanca, Argentina, petrochemical complex remains shut two days after an explosion and fire at the unit, a Dow spokeswoman said Thursday.
"Dow is actively conducting an inquiry into the cause of the incident," said the spokeswoman, who asked not to be identified, in an email.
The explosion and fire at the Bahia Blanca plant, about 220 miles from Buenos Aires, occurred Tuesday.
The Dow spokeswoman did not provide further details about what, if anything, has happened to the company's ability to meet Argentinian demand for LDPE. The plant has a 90,000 mt/year capacity.
The Bahia Blanca complex consists of five more production plants in addition to the LDPE plan, according to Dow.
