Germany-based beverage filling and packaging lines manufacturer Krones has announced plans to upgrade the competitiveness of its Kosme subsidiary.
Kosme, which has production facilities in Roverbella of Italy and Sollenau of Argentina, manufactures filling and packaging machines for the lower output range.
Krones has specifically designed an action package for Kosme's facility which is located in Roverbella.
Earlier this month, Kosme Italy has started negotiations with the trade unions and plans to disclose the details of the agreed action, after concluding them.
As part of the corporate re focus, the company aims to secure the long-term future of the Roverbella facility by optimizing Kosme's product portfolio.
According to Krones, the capacities will also be rightsized in a bid to ensure that Kosme will be able to operate with sustained profitability.
Going forward, Kosme plans to re focus on its core competences in the fields of filling and labelling technologies. It will also cease the operations for packing and palletizing technologies.
The headcount reduction is said to be part of the ongoing negotiations with the trade unions, Krones noted.
Krones revenue has increased by 5.5% year-on-year at €732.5m, in the period from April to June 2014.
In the first half of 2014, the company's revenue increased by 4.2% from €1,377.5m to €1,435.5, the company added.
