Delkor Systems opens new facility in St. Paul
To accommodate its growth, Delkor Systems (a company that specializes in packaging equipment for cartoning, case and tray packing, flat pad shippers and robotics) recently moved its operations to 4300 Round Lake Road West in St. Paul, Minnesota. The new plant is 114,000 sq. ft. and is located at the intersection of Interstate Highways 35W and 694 in the Twin Cities. According to Dale Anderson, President of Delkor Systems, "We are thrilled to be in our new facility. Our design team had as its goal to build a state-of-the-art packaging machinery manufacturing operation, and we are all very pleased with the results.
AMERIPEN publishes brochure on sustainability in packaging
The American Institute for Packaging and the Environment (AMERIPEN) has published a brochure that urges the packaging industry to think more broadly about the role that packaging plays in the total system that it supports, in developing strategies and programs to reduce waste. Rather than focusing on packaging weight reductions, AMERIPEN is suggesting a more comprehensive approach that considers the combined economic, environmental and social impacts of both packages and the products they contain. "Enhancing the Sustainability of Products and Packaging" can be downloaded free of charge from the organization's website.
Owens-Illinois raises more than $765,000 for United Way
Glass container specialist Owens-Illinois Inc. has executed a campaign to support the United Way of Greater Toledo, raising funds and securing volunteer hour pledges to support the community. Pledges from employees and retirees were matched by O-I, bringing the total amount pledged to more than $765,000. These funds will support United Way's volunteer agencies and health and human service providers throughout Lucas, Wood and Ottawa counties. Also, In 2012, O-I employees volunteered more than 2,500 hours by the end of the year. More than 600 employees, including our senior leadership team, volunteered in the community at Scott High School, Toledo Grows, Toledo Food Bank and East Toledo Family Center.
SHL to expand pharma production in Taiwan
Pharmaceutical packaging company SHL plans to expand production facilities in Taiwan. With a focus on drug delivery devices such as auto injectors and pen injectors, SHL has continued to invest heavily in facilities, advanced machinery and R&D. With the rapid growth of the biologic injectable market, device suppliers are under pressure to broaden the range of services that they can provide. Tapp Label Technologies acquires Ben Franklin Press & Label
Tapp Label Technologies Inc., a manufacturer of pressure sensitive labels in the wine/spirits marketplace, has acquired the assets and hired the employees of Ben Franklin Press & Label Co.. The acquired companies has more than 30 years of experience printing pressure-sensitive and wet-glue/cut & stack labels for primarily the wine & spirits industries. Tapp Label now has plants in Napa, CA, and Vancouver, BC, and it performs a variety of services using different printing methods.
