Los Angeles-based Targeted Medical Pharma has obtained a notice of issuance for its projected patent number 8370172 from the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
The patent is related to a system and method for submitting claims for a dispensed medication to a patient by point-of-care physicians.
The USPTO said Targeted Medical will receive the patent on 5 February 2013.
Targeted Medical Pharma CEO and chief scientific officer William Shell said, "This patent provides point of care physicians with a powerful tool to bill for medications utilized within their practices."
Targeted Medical is involved in developing prescription medical foods for the treatment of chronic disease, including pain syndromes, peripheral neuropathy, hypertension, obesity, sleep and cognitive disorders.
