Ford Fiesta Gets Emergency Assistance; Focus Models Get Full-Size Spare Wheel

The Ford Fiesta now comes standard with the car maker’s potentially live-saving Emergency Assistance feature, while select models in the Ford Focus range have been upgraded to include a full-size spare wheel.

The addition of Emergency Assistance brings standard variants in the Fiesta range into line with the Fiesta ST performance flagship, as well as the Focus ST and Kuga models.

A function of Ford’s SYNC mobile connectivity system, Emergency Assistance uses a phone paired with the vehicle to automatically call emergency services if the car has been involved in a crash where the airbags have been deployed or the emergency fuel pump shut-off activated.

Ford says the decision to add a full-size steel spare wheel to the Focus Ambiente and Trend models was a direct response to customer demand. There is no change in specification for Focus Sport, Titanium and ST variants, which will continue to come with a space-saver spare.

The update comes less than two months after the entry-level Ambiente was upgraded to include cruise control as standard, and the Ambiente and Trend variants made available with optional front-seat lumbar support for $50.

The latest enhancements to Fiesta and Focus apply from October production.
