Spain's CyL Region's Textile Exports to China Have Increased Four-Fold

Exports of textile and apparel from the Spanish community of Castile and Leon (CyL) to China have increased four-fold in the past four years, Director General of Trade and Consumer Affairs of the community, Rosa Mendez, has said.

Speaking at the recently held ‘XVI Fashion Pasarela Castilla y Leon 2013’, Ms. Mendez said the overall textile and apparel exports from the autonomous community have grown by 3.5 percent in the past four years.

The exports of CyL textiles and clothing to China have risen four times since 2009. In addition, the foreign markets in Croatia, Poland and Romania have also increased the purchase of clothing items that are manufactured in the industries of Castile and Leon. Even the US, which is one of the largest importers of textile and apparel, has increased its purchase in recent years, Ms. Mendez added.

While inaugurating the fashion event, Ms. Mendez said the 16th edition of the community’s fashion week is aimed at achieving three objectives—to promote the textile and apparel sector by showcasing their creations; helping with design and industry training; and providing information on the demand and supply trends in the sector.

At the fashion event, a ‘Marketing Plan’ for the textile and apparel sector of Castile and Leon community was unveiled. The plan includes measures to boost the presence of locally manufactured garments in the Spanish and global market; and improve cooperation between all textile and apparel industries; and enhancing local trade by promoting regional product marketing. The plan also includes providing services for marketing the goods produced by more than 1,500 manufacturers and producers of the community.

The fashion show saw some great designs created by designers of the community and from different regions of Spain. The models walking the ramp displayed kidswear, evening gowns, hosiery clothing line, bridalwear, swimwear and innerwear.
