TabTimes and the Application Developers Alliance are partnering to launch THE TABBY AWARDS, which will begin accepting submissions today. TabTimes is the only media company focusing on the tablet business, and the Application Developers Alliance is a trade association for app developers.
The Tabby Awards is a one-of-a-kind tablet-specific competition that recognizes and celebrates the most innovative, useful and fun applications for iPad, Android and Windows 8 tablets worldwide.
"It's about time that tablets are recognized as an original and specific media platform," said TabTimes Founder and CEO Patrick Pierra , "The best tablet apps are neither supersized mobile apps nor traditional websites. This is why they need their own competition, to be truly appreciated as the life-changers they have been for millions of tablet users."
"App developers have created an extraordinary range of products tailored to parents, doctors, educators, gamers and everyday consumers," said Jon Potter, President of the Application Developers Alliance, "This awards program will rightly celebrate excellence and ingenuity in the field."
This competition follows the success of last year's The Tabby Awards /Business, where an expert panel of judges picked 14 winners among the top business apps.
The Tabby Awards competition is now open to consumer applications written for the iOS, Android, and Windows 8 operating systems. Tablet app producers may compete in 27 categories.
Apps will be judged by a panel of experienced app developers, designers, and publishers, as well as tech bloggers and journalists. Confirmed judges include current and former editors of CNET, Wikia, CBS News and TIME Magazine.
Once judging is complete, TabTimes will celebrate The Tabby Awards winners at a ceremony in San Francisco, which will be held in conjunction with a new tablet conference.
Submissions for tablet apps will be accepted from today through April 15. Early bird submission rates apply until March 11.
