Low price of gas could impact the sale of electric cars, according to BMW which is planning to introduce electric models of its top selling cars.
Bloomberg cited BMW's head of sales and marketing Ian Robertson as saying that the sale of electric cars in the US and other countries may slump due to the reduced gas prices.
Robertson said: "There are some short-term changes that will occur in some countries.
"There would be some moves toward some bigger-engine vehicles."
The price of gas has reached $2 a gallon in the US and supply from Petroleum Exporting Countries have triggered the fall of oil prices down to 40% in 12 months.
The reduced oil prices have triggered users to opt for less expensive conventional motors rather than hybrid eco-friendly vehicles.
According to the findings of Electric Drive Transportation Association in the US the sale of hybrid and electric cars have fallen 3.7% to 570,475 vehicles last year.
