PPG Completes $3m Expansion at Oak Creek Facility in Wisconsin

US-based PPG has opened a nearly $3m expansion for packaging coatings manufacturing at its Oak Creek facility in Wisconsin.

As part of the expansion project, the firm added a new 3,300ft² facility to produce food-can coatings to help customers meet their increasing food-contact regulatory requirements.

Certified by independent institutes, the PPG’s food-can coatings meet both the North American and European regulatory requirements.

PPG said that the Oak Creek facility is now equipped to produce specialized solutions to meet new requirements as regulations and market demands change.

PPG packaging coatings vice-president Ken West said: “This expansion significantly increases our packaging coatings manufacturing capability in the US, enabling us to meet growing demand for our industry-leading food-can coatings.

“This investment shows PPG’s continuing commitment to the packaging industry, and it strengthens our ability to meet emerging customer requirements for innovative technological solutions.”

Earlier this year, the firm announced the completion of a $19m investment to install new high-performance waterborne and high-solids coatings production line at its Wuhu facility in Anhui province, China.

The investment is a part of the company’s effort to improve the production and service capabilities of its automotive coatings business for customers in China.

PPG offers range of packaging coatings products and services as well as complete Bisphenol A non-intent (BPA-NI, or with no BPA intentionally added) system including Nutrishield brand of products for coating various types of cans and metal containers.
