Reportedly, ArcelorMittal Dosfasco based in Ontario Canada has decided to close down its 62-year-old coke plant No.1 in March 2015 due to higher maintenance costs.
100 employees will be affected from the shutdown but the company believes that the workers could be relocated and keeps their jobs.
ArcelorMittal Dofasco will continue to operate coke plants No.2 and No.3 that are 43 and 34 years old respectively.
The company plans to hire about 1,500 employees over the next 3-5 years for the expected retirements.
