First-tier China-based PV makers are planning to establish laboratory-level production lines for N-type monocrystalline silicon solar cells, and if trial production goes smooth, volume production may begin in 2016, according to industry sources in Taiwan.
Taiwan-based solar cell makers, including Neo Solar Power, Gintech Energy, Sunrise Global Solar Energy, Solartech Energy, E-Ton Solar Tech and TSEC, have been engaged in R&D of N-type monocrystalline solar cells, the sources said. However, they generally think production equipment and manufacturing technology for such solar cells are not mature yet and therefore volume production will be infeasible until at least 2017.
