Zumbiel Digital Installs Kodak Prosper 6000s Simplex Color Inkjet Web Press

US-based paperboard packaging firm Zumbiel Digital has installed Kodak Prosper 6000S simplex color inkjet web press for use in packaging applications.

Based in Hebron of Kentucky, Zumbiel offers a range of packaging solutions to the customers in the food, beverage and healthcare markets.

The company has installed the Kodak web press to expand its production capacity and enhance its digital capabilities. It has specifically installed the press to be used for the production of folding cartons.

Zumbiel Digital president Ed Zumbiel said: “Our customers are running more and more marketing campaigns requiring mass versioning, but have not been able to include paperboard in the mix due to digital's high cost and low output.

“We therefore needed to find a digital technology with production capacity and print quality that would be suitable for market-leading brands.

Zumbiel Digital's advanced hybrid configuration of Prosper 6000S press is said to integrate in-line die cutting and seven in-line flexo towers for pre-coating, application of PMS colors, backside printing and overprint varnish.

Prosper 6000S simplex color inkjet web press holds capacity to deliver up to 12,000 B1 sheets per hour with a print quality of 600 x 900 dpi at speeds of up to 200 m/min.

The press, which can provide print widths of 204mm to 647mm, can handle paper-based substrates such as labels, carton and PE coated paper between 150 gsm and 380 gsm.

The press will use Kodak's nanoparticulate pigment CMYK inks, which are compliant with indirect food contact safety regulations.

Zumbiel Digital president Ed Zumbiel said: “Our customers are running more and more marketing campaigns requiring mass versioning, but have not been able to include paperboard in the mix due to digital's high cost and low output.

“We therefore needed to find a digital technology with production capacity and print quality that would be suitable for market-leading brands.”

Kodak packaging sales and marketing, enterprise inkjet systems division worldwide director Donald Allred said: "The unmatched economy and throughput of the Prosper 6000S-based hybrid press will allow Zumbiel Digital to take mass-customization of paperboard packaging from niche to mainstream.
