Global supply of high-end LED chips is short of demand by 20-30% currently, according to chairman Lee Biing-jye of LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker Epistar.
Despite the shortage, Epistar will not hike quotes for high-end LED chips and will maintain its leading technological status, Lee said.
Epistar expects to run a full capacity through third-quarter 2014, allowing Epistar to pick orders, Lee said. In contrast, China-based LED makers have about 1,300 MOCVD sets in total 500 are currently idle, Lee indicated.
