Sixty Per Cent of Top US Firms Using BB10, Claims Blackberry

Sixty per cent of the 500 largest corporations in America are testing or using BlackBerry 10 devices, the Canadian telecommunications firm has said, as phone operators' start stocking its keyboard interfaced Q10 smartphone.

"This is a very exciting day for us, launching with all four major US carriers," said BlackBerry CEO Kristian Tear.

According to BlackBerry, six out of 10 companies in the US Fortune 500 are using its devices in some capacity, something the firm hopes will encourage greater uptake of its latest BB10-operated smartphones, especially now that a keyboard-based model has been released.

The keyboard is something which set BlackBerry apart from touchscreen rivals such as Apple and Samsung.

"Since everybody is migrating toward this, we expect it will definitely create pull for our products," said Tear, according to Reuters.

"There are a lot of very loyal BlackBerry keyboard users out there who have been waiting for this and I think, with the Q10, we will also be able to win back prior BlackBerry customers, who are now trying other platforms."

BlackBerry 10 launched in the UK in January this year, with a US launch shortly afterwards. Initial sales of the BlackBerry Z10 were disappointing for the firm, especially in its core market of the US, which saw investment firm Goldman Sachs downgrade its rating of BlackBerry in March.

The news that BlackBerry is reportedly being adopted by the majority of large US firms comes as international law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld announced it has chosen to deploy 500 BlackBerry 10 devices, citing "robust security" as a major factor in the decision.

"We are excited to be moving forward with the new BlackBerry 10 platform. It is important to us that we provide our employees with powerful tools when working remotely, and the new BlackBerry platform with its ease of use and robust security is a major step forward and a significant part of that strategy," said Scott Bravi, chief information officer at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.

BlackBerry will be hoping the apparent increased adoption of its products can help turn around its profits, as Q4 results for the firm represented a 36 per cent year-on-year dip.
