KHS will showcase its InnoPET Plasmax coating technology for the first time at China International Beverage Industry Exhibition on Science & Technology in November in Shanghai.
The technology seeks to couple hygienic and qualitative features of glass with weight advantages of a PET bottle.
KHS specializes in filling and packaging systems for the beverage, food and non-food sectors, and offers its FreshSafe-PET technology for the bottling of juice, wine and beer, and liquid foods.
InnoPET process involves the application of ultra-thin, flexible layer of pure glass (SiOx) on the containers to prevvent the contents from exposure to carbon dioxide, oxygen, and flavorings.
As a result, the shelf lives of the products get enhanced without compromising on the taste. The PET containers obtain a crystal-clear appearance, while the Plasmax process aims to bond the ultra-thin (<0.1μm) glass layer strongly with the containers.
The bottles can also be recycled on the lines of PET bottles.
Notably, Turkish beverage producer Doganay Gida is implementing the FreshSafe-PET technology under the term CamPET.
