US-based injectable drug delivery components and systems developer and manufacturer West Pharmaceutical Services has launched ID Adapter, a new drug delivery system for disposable syringes.
According to the firm, the new adapter is designed to improve the consistency and reliability of intradermal injections for vaccines and other injectable drugs.
West said it has acquired a license to the technology in 2010 and has completed the product development and first phase of commercial scale-up at its manufacturing facility in Arizona.
The firm recently received 510K clearance for the ID Adapter from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The firm claims that the new system can become an alternative to the Mantoux method, which is a industry standard system for intradermal injection since 1907.
West Pharmaceutical Delivery Systems president John Paproski said, "We are delighted to offer our customers a solution which can improve reliability and performance of intradermal injections and meet growing market demands in this area."
