JCIM LLC, the molding unit of auto interior supplier Johnson Controls Inc., has sold its blow molding operations in a move that will allow it to concentrate on its core production in injection molding. Engineered Plastic Components Inc. of Grinnell, Iowa, completed the acquisition from JCIM on Sept. 30 for an undisclosed price, said JCI spokeswoman Debra Lacey in an Oct. 24 telephone interview. The sale involved one plant in Owensboro, Ky., and some equipment that had been in operation in Monroe, Mich. Blow molding is not a core competency for JCIM, part of the auto unit of Johnson Controls based in Plymouth, Mich., so it made sense to trim the operations, Lacey said. EPC has steadily increased its capacity and capabilities through the acquisition of a variety of facilities that were no longer needed or about to close. The company now has production in Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Wisconsin, Ohio and Reynosa, Mexico, in addition to the new facilities purchased from JCIM. Source: plasticsnews.com
