Celerity Tip Location System Was Approved by Health Canada Which Medcomp Obtains

US-based AngioDynamics' distribution partner Medcomp has obtained an approval from Health Canada for the Celerity tip location system for peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC).

The ECG-based PICC tip confirmation technology functions as an alternative to chest X-ray and fluoroscopy to confirm the location of a PICC in adult patients.

AngioDynamics, which entered into a global distribution agreement with Medcomp in January 2013, is likely to begin the distribution of the Celerity tip location system in October 2013.

AngioDynamics global vascular access franchise senior vice president Chuck Greiner noted the ability to offer an integrated tip location system puts the company in a very strong competitive position.

"We believe the combination of the Celerity system with our market-leading, thrombus-resistant BioFlo technology may provide unparalleled clinical and economic advantages, and has the potential to become the gold standard in the PICC market," Greiner added.

The Celerity system is currently under regulatory review in the US and in Europe.

The company will showcase the technology at the Association for Vascular Access' annual scientific meeting in Nashville, Tennessee from 20 September to 23 September 2013.
