The Canadian government is boosting food-safety procedures and practices as a part its efforts to support Chicken Farmers of Canada(CFC)–a national organization representing 2,700 farmers.
Member of Parliament James Bezan said the government is investing C$72,500($71,111)in the initiative and the project helps farmers manage food safety risks and cater to the rising market demands.
"Helping Canadian farmers continue to produce safe,high-quality food for the marketplace is critical,as our government's top priority remains the economy,"Bezan said.
Initially,CFC will use the investment in conducting an audit of its on-farm food safety system,to ensure that the industry follows high level safety procedures and practices. It will then proceed to the final stage of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's On-Farm Food Safety Recognition Program.
The federal Growing Forward investment is being made through the Canadian Integrated Food Safety Initiative(CIFSI).
Further, the government is helping organizations in developing national,government-recognized on-farm or post-farm HACCP or HACCP-based food safety systems.
