Russian metallurgical scrap processing company Vtorchermet c(part of NLMK Group) has announced that it has commissioned a new high-performance shredder at the Vtorchermet NLMK Center site in Podolsk.
Designed for processing light and mixed scrap, the new shredder will improve the quality of raw materials supplied to NLMK Kaluga and NLMK Group's other steelmaking plants. The resulting lower tap-to-tap time and energy consumption will improve the environmental performance of the company's steelmaking operations.
Equipped with a 4,000 HP drive and capable of processing up to 100 mt of scrap per hour, the new shredder from Metso Lindemann GmbH will enhance the performance of the Podolsk site and improve the environmental efficiency of waste collection and disposal, and secondary resource recovery.
This upgrade is part of NLMK's technical upgrade and development program for its scrap processing division launched in 2011. The program provides for the doubling of ferrous scrap processing in the Moscow region to 800,000 mt per year by 2016 from the 2012 levels.
This is Vtorchermet NLMK's second shredder in the Moscow region. The first one was installed at the company's site in Mytischi in 2010.
