Due to rising competition in the LED lighting market, Taiwan-based LED chipmaker Genesis Photonics has been aggressive in vertical integration from LED chips to system products. The firm plans to focus its 2013 marketing efforts to promote Match LED products which include ceiling, candlelight-shaped lighting, and light bulbs.
Genesis is currently showcasing new Match LED components developed using flip chip and eutectic bonding technologies at the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition 2013 (GILE 2013).
Company chairman, David Chung, stated that the firm has entered the LED street lamp component market and shipments began in June 2013. Sales from the business are likely to spur revenue growth in 2013-2014, said Chung.
Genesis noted that sales of vertically integrated Match LED applications are likely to account for 10-15% of quarterly revenues. In particular, the gross margin of candlelight-shaped LED lighting is higher than the gross margin of LED light bulbs. Also, the technology gap between Taiwan- and China-based firms has been narrowing, hence Taiwan needs to maintain market share through product differentiation.
