Galaxy Note 4 Joined Galaxy Alpha as Devices Been Secretly Harbouring Gorilla Glass 4

The Galaxy Note 4 has just joined the Galaxy Alpha as devices that have been secretly harbouring Gorilla Glass 4 all along.

While that might sound benign, it’s especially interesting because both handsets were released before Corning officially announced Gorilla Glass 4.

Samsung unveiled its Galaxy Note 4 phablet back in September at the IFA conference in Berlin, although it made no mention of Corning’s new glass.

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha saw a similar release, with the South Korean firm keeping equally mum on the display panel cover.

Yesterday Corning revealed the Galaxy Alpha had touted Gorilla Glass 4 since launch, with the firm’s President for East Asia, Cliff Hund, saying: “The Galaxy Alpha is the culmination of our close collaboration with Samsung.”

“Corning spends a great deal of time collaborating with Samsung to recommend solutions that will continually improve their device design and performance.”

“Device makers want to go thinner without sacrificing damage resistance. Samsung is not only meeting these requirements, but is on the cutting edge of smartphone design.”

Corning unveiled Gorilla Glass 4 proper last month, touting the new panels as good for an 80 per cent face-down drop survival rate.

It also measures up at 0.3mm thinner than Gorilla Glass 3, which somewhat explains why the Galaxy Alpha and Note 4 rank in amongst the most svelte flagship handsets.
