Touch Panel Makers Are Continuing to Invest in On-Cell Technology for Use in Entry-Level

China-based touch panel makers are continuing to invest in on-cell technology for use in entry-level and mid-range smartphones, according to industry sources.

The makers are optimistic about business opportunities for the technology used in entry-level and mid-range smartphones across the globe, the sources said, adding that the technology provides low-cost solutions with sufficient touch response.

Touch panel makers anticipate most of business opportunities will be in China and that Samsung Electronics is increasingly interested in using the technology if makers are able to produce it at cheaper costs and obtain higher yields for products used with AMOLED panels.

Most of the new on-cell touch products are expected to be mass produced by the second quarter of 2014 for sizes 4- to 6-inch, the sources added.
