There's that old adage about sometimes having to spend a penny to save a penny and it certainly rings true where LED lighting is concerned.
Without question fitting LED bathroom lights will cost you a little bit more than if you installed run of the mill lighting options but with energy prices seemingly on the rise all the time, going LED could save you a fair chunk of change in the future.
Previously people raised questions about the cold quality of LEDs, but advancements have been made in recent years and now this type of lighting can make your home as bright and as beautiful as can be.
But LED bulbs also use considerably less power so can make your electricity bill a little easier on the wallet as well.
According to Adam Vaughan of the Guardian, the extra money spent on installing LEDs will be recouped in less than 15 months and after that they deliver savings which could run into hundreds of pounds each year if you have used them in several rooms.
His sentiments are backed up by James Russell, technical development manager at the Energy Saving Trust.
He said: "If customers are prepared to pay the up-front higher cost they will quickly calculate that they will see a return on their investment within the first couple of years - and will go on making financial savings for many more years.
"Customers will also not have the hassle of continuously replacing burnt-out halogen lamps."
Typically a halogen bulb will last for 1,000 hours, but LED lights promise to provide more than ten times that amount of usage.
The Guardian has calculated that a new build property using 40 LED lights for around 2.7 hours each day would use £23 a year in electricity whereas the same number of halogen lights would run up a bill of £287.
