The Toyota FJ Cruiser Ultimate Edition has been unveiled at the 2013 SEMA show in Las Vegas, commemorating the SUV’s approaching sales end.
Ending its US sales at the conclusion of the 2014 model year, the Toyota FJ Cruiser Trail Teams Ultimate Edition will be limited to 2500 4×4-only models and is touted by its maker as “the toughest and most capable FJ ever”.
Intended to pay tribute to the 1960s LandCruiser FJ40, the Heritage Blue-finished FJ Ultimate Edition features a unique white front grille surround as well as black bumpers, wing mirrors, door handles, rock rails and a black roof rack.
Joining “race-inspired” Toyota Racing Development (TRD) off-road suspension, are an aluminium TRD front skid plate and Gunmetal 16-inch TRD bead lock wheels wrapped in chunky BF Goodrich tyres.
Inside, a stainless steel “FJ Cruiser Ultimate Edition” dash plaque is accompanied by a leather-trimmed steering wheel and a floating-ball-type multi-information display with inclinometer, compass and outside temperature.
Powered by a 4.0-litre V6 petrol engine – that locally outputs 200kW and 380Nm – the FJ Ultimate Edition will be in US dealerships in February, coming standard with an electronically controlled locking rear differential and the Crawl off-road cruise control system added to Australian specification vehicles from March this year.
Due to the FJ Cruiser being built in Japan, Toyota Australia says the US decision to stop selling the SUV has no impact on Australia.
“We have no plan to discontinue the FJ locally,” Toyota Australia product public relations manager Stephen Coughlan said.
Since launching in 2011, the local division says 7118 FJ Cruisers have been sold, with 2251 being shifted so far this year.
