Despite the lingering European sovereign debt crisis, Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry president C. C. Wang said Taiwan’s machine-tool industry has gradually bottomed and demand from emerging markets as China, India and Southeast Asia is expected to drive robust growth this year. Wang said Taiwan’s leading machine-tool manufacturers have already sealed orders for shipments in the first quarter and begun to receive orders for the second quarter, with the orders being short-term and rushed, also suggesting the makers to establish quick-response ability to boost competitiveness. Taiwan’s big names in this field, including Victor Taichung Machinery Works Co., Tongtai Machine & Tool Co., Roundtop Machinery Co. And Taiwan Takisawa Technology Co., have recently received big-ticket orders from the high-tech, machinery, electronics and food processing sectors, with most boasting order visibility for the next four months. Victor Taichung said it has recently received orders for 20-odd medium- and large-sized plastic injection molding machines from a domestic food-processing firm, and has NT$1 billion backlogged orders, enough to fill production for two months. Roundtop, focusing on the production of customized machines, said it has recently received NT$100 million in orders from a manufacturer of aerospace parts, with NT$600 million orders backlogged and enough to fill production till the end of the second quarter of this year.
