Metso Will Supply a Cooking Plant Rebuild for Billerudkorsnas' Paper Mill in Sweden

Metso will supply a cooking plant rebuild, a brown stock washing plant and a screening plant for renewable packaging material provider BillerudKorsnäs’ mill in Gruvön, Sweden, as part of a contract.

The mill, which has a production capacity of 685,000 tons/year, produces kraft paper, sack paper, container board, liquid carton board, cupstock and market pulp.

Under the contract, Metso will supply a rebuild of the existing cooking plant to feature a CompactCooking G2 digester, a new ImpBin chip impregnation system, a pressure diffuser and a screening plant.

According to Metso, the start-up of the rebuilt cooking plant and brown stock washing plant is planned for May 2014, while for the screening plant it is scheduled for May 2015.

BillerudKorsnäs Gruvön mill production manager Alf Sondell said the cooking plant and the brown stock washing plant jointly will use the wood raw material and lower the chemical consumption in the pulping process.

"In addition the cooking plant rebuild and the new screening plant will substantially lower the energy consumption within the process area," Sondell added.

The value of the order, which is included in Metso's Pulp, Paper and Power second quarter 2013 orders received, will not be disclosed.
