Irish paper and packaging group Smurfit Kappa has designed optimized corrugated board shelf boxes for Germany-based integrated solutions provider Hermes Fulfilment’s storage purposes.
Hermes Fulfilment project manager for logistics planning Sven Redelin said the solution meets the needs of the company's quest for environmentally sound and sustainable solutions. Besides, the company has optimized the use of storage space with uniform storage containers.
The original plastic trays were used by the company in its fulfilment processes for the handling and transport of return goods, which represents a capital investment that can be reduced by focusing on the use of the ultra-stable plastic trays for transport.
"Furthermore, due to a much shorter storage packaging lead time we can react considerably more swiftly to volume fluctuations in transport handling," Redelin said.
Hermes Fulfilment operates order-picking warehouses for number of companies, where the articles are held ready in plastic storage trays for the storage and retrieval system.
