Evergreen Packaging Launches Fully Renewable Carton

Fiber-based packaging solutions provider Evergreen Packaging has debuted fully renewable carton at the Natural Products Expo East trade show, held in Baltimore, Maryland, US.

The company states that the new packaging product highlights its commitment towards developing sustainable packaging solutions from renewable materials.

The carton will be available in all board grades and all sizes of the FreshHouse line of cartons. The FreshHouse cartons are made from renewable material including the paper from trees grown in forests where responsible management practices are used and where overall growth is claimed to exceed the use.

Renewable fibre from trees and renewable polyethylene from sugarcane give a paper carton which is fully renewable. Apart from this, more than 50% of the energy used in the manufacture of the cartons is claimed to be biomass, a renewable source of energy derived from the byproducts of wood.

The new line of Renewable Plus Cartons are ideally suited for consumers who are looking for sustainable packaging material.

According to a recent research conducted by EcoFocus Worldwide, about 72% of grocery shoppers say a corporate commitment to only use packaging made from renewable materials is extremely and very influential in their purchase decisions. Additionally, 50% of grocery shoppers say that they always or usually look for beverages in packaging that is made from renewable materials.

Evergreen Packaging North American Packaging vice president DeWitt Clark said: “Our new Renewable Plus Carton reflects our promise to continually innovate and create unique renewable packaging solutions that serve both customers and consumers.

“Customers can offer fully renewable carton options which leverage our industry-leading expertise in barrier extrusion technology. Consumers can feel good about purchasing products knowing that they’re purchasing packaging made from renewable materials.”

Evergreen Packaging plans to showcase the new Renewable Plus Carton at the Natural Products Expo East trade show, to be held in Baltimore, Maryland from September 14-16 at the Baltimore Convention Center.
