The 30th Annual IALD International Lighting Design Awards

Last night, the lighting designers behind 10 projects in nine different countries, were announced as winners of the 30th Annual IALD International Lighting Design Awards.

Described by the IALD as "the most diverse group of projects in recent memory",?in terms of geography, the awards ceremony?at Philadelphia's Crystal Tea Room on 24 April recognised 10 architectural lighting design projects with one entry earning a Special Citation, six entries receiving Awards of Merit and three earning Awards of Excellence.

The entry given the highest point score by judges across all categories, in addition to receiving an Award of Excellence for their project, receives the IALD Radiance Award for excellence in lighting design.

Accepting the Radiance Award was Gerd Pfarré of Pfarré Lighting Design for the Hafencity-University subway station in Hamburg, Germany.

The IALD received more than 220 submissions from across the world. The IALD's panel of seven judges include five IALD members, an interior designer and architect. Judging took place at the IALD headquarters in Chicago last December.

Rosemarie Allaire, IALD International Lighting Design Awards chair, who runs California-based practice Rosemarie Allaire Lighting Design, said: "It was an honour to witness so many creative and innovative lighting projects from our talented industry. Each of these projects demonstrates unique and distinctive design solutions to enhance the architectural experience."
