Jean Shin's Chemical Balance Light Exhibit Uses Mounds of Sculpted Prescription Bottles

Jean Shin’s Chemical Balance art/light exhibit uses mounds of sculpted prescription bottles, mirrors, epoxy, and fluorescent lights to express the artist’s feelings about the overconsumption of prescription drugs. Thousands of prescription pill bottles were collected from pharmacies, individuals, and nursing homes to create these illuminating sculptures.

These sculptures have been exhibited at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C. and the University Art Museum, Albany, NY. The glowing lights from behind the orange bottles would look just about right in a doctor’s office, like a reminder to take care of yourself or you may end up with one of these bottles in your hand.
