According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in July this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) remained stable as compared to June and was up 0.6 percent compared to the same month of 2013. In June, production had decreased by 0.1 percent compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in July of the current year also remained stable month on month, while increasing 0.4 percent compared to July 2013. In June, production had decreased by 0.4 percent in the euro area compared to May, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-28 in July increased by 0.2 percent month on month and rose by one percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region decreased by one percent from June and was down 1.9 percent year on year.
As compared to June, construction output in July increased in Hungary by 3.9 percent, in Germany by 1.7 percent, in Spain and Sweden both by one percent, while a decrease of 3.1 percent was registered in the Czech Republic, a decline of 2.1 percent was recorded in Slovenia, a decrease of 1.5 percent was registered in France and a decline of one percent was registered in Poland.
As compared to July 2013, construction output in July of the current year increased in Slovenia by 24.8 percent, in Hungary by 17.5 percent and in Spain by 11.6 percent, while a decrease of 19.7 percent was registered in Romania, a decline of 8.8 percent was recorded in Portugal and a decline of 6.1 percent was witnessed in Slovakia.
